Step: 1
  • Watch the installation videos.
  • When installing any light cover we offer, make sure you are applying it at the appropriate temperature (70º to 80º F (21º to 27º C)). Can you install it at a lower or higher temperature? Yes, it will simply be more difficult particularly for adhesive backed light covers.
  • Apply the film cover to a clean light. If the light is not clean, dirt-free and oil-free no light cover we offer will adhere properly. We offer Rapid-prep and recommend its use for cleaning your light housing. It is safe and effective. You may use other cleaning solutions, but this is the one we recommend.
  • Always contact us with any questions that arise before, during or after installation. We are here to help.

Step: 2
  • Is your light clean? Will masking tape adhere to it? if you answered "yes" then you can continue.  If you answered "No" then keep cleaning.
  • A "dry" application method may be used on small lights or on Blackout light Covers.
  • A "wet" application method should be used on almost all tail light cover and headlight cover installations. We recommend Rapid Tac for the "slip" solution of the "wet" application method. This is formulated to work with our film and work with our adhesive backed kits.
  • "Wet" application allows you to reposition the light cover during application.
  • "Wet" application allows you to heat stretch and conform the light cover.
  • "Wet" application reduces the chances of scratching, tearing or marring the light cover.
  • How do I use the wet application method? Watch the videos.

Step: 3
  • If you are using the "dry" method or applying Blackout Static Cling Light Covers you may skip these steps.
  • Liberally spray the light, the adhesive side of the light cover and the gloss side of the light cover.
  • Align the light cover to the simplest edge or center it and "pin" it into place by using the squeegee to apply pressure and remove a small amount of "slip" solution (Rapid Tac). Having a small amount of adhesion will help you to work the film into place from the center out.
  • Use a second pair of hands.  Sometimes its nice to have someone hold the film while you begin to work it into place. This will keep the light cover from adhering when you don't want it to. We show in the video how it is done with one installer, but then we are professionals.
  • "Wet" application reduces the chances of scratching, tearing or marring the light cover.

Step: 4
  • My light cover appears to be too small! Actually it is not, because your light has curves, the film must be worked into place.
  • How do I work it into place? Use your hands, a squeegee and a heat source.  You can use a hair dryer or a heat gun on a low setting.  Keep the heat source a several inches away for the film. Keep the film moist with Rapid Tac to keep the film from overheating.
  • As the film softens It is easier to apply it.  It will conform to the contours of your light.  It will stretch to the edge and beyond.  Ridges and creases will disappear.  Small air bubbles will disappear.  All this with the help of your application squeegee and low-friction sleeve. Watch the video and see the techniques for yourself.
  • Once your light cover is installed trim away any excess film or application tabs.  Polish it with Rapid Clear and seal the edges with the Seal It Pen. If it is a Blackout Light Cover you may remove it at a later time and reapply when desired.
